PageFlows with VB?

Hi all, we are forced to use VB as per contract standards. We would like to use PageFlows instead of the UIP if possible. Has anyone tried this? I am struggling to get the designer to work, and think I might have to hand construct the PageFlow classes or use a converter to convert them from C# to VB.

How are you doing it at the moment? I would suggest looking at the Guidance Package source and tweaking the Page Flow project recipes to generate a VB version...

Is that what you mean?

There is also info in the help file about how to manually create a Page Flow workflow (without using the recipes).

Hope that helps.

Today? I am using a C# project. It will be tough to get this past the client though...

The help file is pretty lame when it comes to specifics. It has no information about using the page flow designer with VB code.

Has anyone actually done this?

Page Flow projects are simply Windows Workflow definitions, so as long as it compiles to MSIL I believe it should work fine... in which case, give this a whirl;

1. Add new project -> VB.NET State Machine Workflow Library
2. Add references to Microsoft.Practices.PageFlow and Microsoft.Practices.PageFlow.WorkflowFoundation
3. Add an Import Microsoft.Practices.PageFlow.WorkflowFoundation.Activities
4. Add an "Inherits PageFlow"
5. Follow the existing Page Flow instructions in "How to: Create a Page Flow Definition" in the help (adding page flow activities etc)
6. Add a reference to your project from your code and use it as you would a C# definition

That should get you up and running... let me know if it works or if I missed anything.

Simonice, I appreciate your response. It does NOT work. Sure I can create a page flow project, and I can all the references. But creating a page flow definition as per the instructions DOES NOT WORK, as it generates C#

Again, has anyone actually tried this in VB?

Sorry, to clarify, when I said "follow the existing Page Flow instructions" read from "To add custom activities to the Toolbox" and beyond... then the "Defining a Page Flow" subject.

The instructions I posted were manual steps to replace three-quarters of the "How to: Create a Page Flow Definition" to create a VB version of the Workflow for use in the designer... they do not change the guidance package to create a VB version for you unfortunatley.

Is this what you mean?

Simon, thanks for your help.

We have decided to wait for the software to mature, perhaps have better support and documentation, and have a larger user base before proceeding.

thanks

Hi Alex, WCSF Jun 2007 includes Visual Basic recipes.

PageFlow with Visual Basic is working under that version.

Please let me know if this helps,
